Five Reasons Why It Is Dangerous to Compare Yourself with Others 2
Nobody can be exactly like me. Sometimes even I have trouble doing it. –
Tallulah Bankhead, Actress
The number of reasons not to compare ourselves to others are as numerous as the limitless designs of snowflakes. Here are a handful to consider:
- You’re not, and never will be, qualified to judge the value of others. You’re not even qualified to accurately judge your own value. When you bake a cake, you can judge that. Even then, you’re not satisfied until you have an outside opinion.
- Comparing yourself to others can lead to envy. Face it, you have enough needs as it is, why add what they have to that list? Honor and value what is yours and you will reap greater rewards that are intended solely for you.
- You might incorrectly decide you’re a loser. When you count up the things you lack, you overlook the glorious qualities that have been given to you. The game isn’t over unless you quit early. Improve your score by improving your self-image.
- If people sense that you despise you, they feel uncomfortable and avoid you because it’s exhausting to keep propping up your ego. You become a poisonous source of pointless gloom, mistreating others to share your misery.
- If you don’t be you, we’ll miss you. You are a wonderfully made, marvelous mosaic of character quirks. Your gifts are uniquely designed to be used by you and complete the magnificence of our lives’ possibilities. Be you! We need you!
