Problems with authentic happiness

1. Neither engagement nor meaning refers to how we feel
2. Life satisfaction holds too privileged a position in the measure of happiness.

Measured in a scale of 1 – 10 how satisfied are you?

The problem with such a measure of life satisfaction is that it depends on how good we feel at the very moment we are asked the question.. it is tied to our mood.. feel 70%; judgement 30%.

Some people may not be the cheerful type but have more engagement and meaning in their life than ‘merry’ people. Life satisfaction works against introverts even though they may be engaged with work and friends.

Consequently, it can be argued that life satisfaction simply measures a cheerful mood.
